2006 in photos
It's that time again. Before we make tomorrow's hangovers, we take stock of the year gone by. For me, that pretty much means looking at the photos I've taken, since most of the rest of my life is subordinate. So here are some of my faves of each month of 2006.
January
2006 was the year of the D200 for me -- I got my first one in January and my friend Kristen helped me test it out with a series of portraits in the Met. I suppose this one is a runner-up, since it was actually taken at the beginning of the year.
February
In February I began a documentary on Jen Dziura, which took me to all sorts of interesting places. At one of the first shoots I got this shot of Jen in her club, lit by her PDA, and knew the work was well worth it.
March
I shot everything from models to the Washington Monument in March, but the simplicity of this one, taken hand-held, stands out to me.
April
The wedding season starts, and what a gorgeous one this was. Lots of fun, too.
May
Graduation Day at Columbia. Maybe my favorite shot of the year.
June
A school bus in post-Katrina New Orleans. The whole set is important to me.
July
The masses seem to greatly prefer this one, but this stark abstract was my desktop image until …
August
...this one supplanted it. Katie and I set out to do mostly full-body environmental stuff, but this backdrop called to me, such that I made us sprint two blocks to catch the right light.
September
In September I began a serious search for wide-angle options, and this began my accidental series of Women and Lockers. For the ladies, I still love the attitude in this one.
October
It was a hard call between this and "The Joy of Youth," but the preponderance of people shots tipped my hand.
November
Sorry, folks. November is for some reason a very busy time for my business, and it would be a lie to say that I'll remember any shots more than the ones I took of Muhammed Ali -- they aren't cleared for Web publication, though.
December
Looks familiar. There is actually a shot or two from this week that I like at least as much, but it's part of a project I'm working on and won't be up for a couple days.
