A Kiss Seen Round the World, Identified



It's interesting how often the most famous photos of the 20th century are of people who are unidentified. "Model releases" were a buzzword of a different age, so the confusion over who was in the "raising the flag over Mt. Suribachi" photo provided fodder for a major book and movie, National Geographic made a huge deal out of Steve McCurry going to meet the now-identified Sharbat Gula ("Afghan Girl"), and now forensics experts have verified the identity of the unknown sailor.
